Kanamari is the ancient Japanese word for metal bowl. Lacquering metal was a rather uncommon technique in Japan’s Edo period, mostly reserved for weapons and armour. Now revived by Echizen’s craftsmen, the Kanamari series offer a distinct sense of wabi sabi by finishing the metal with rough, thick brush strokes. The Kanamari plate comes in red and also works as a fashionable fruit bowl.
